World Blood Donor Day Save a Life

World Blood Donor Day: Blood Donation In Emergencies

This year’s World Blood Donor Day will be marked on 14th June 2017. The campaign will focus on blood donation in emergencies.

Emergencies increase the demand for blood transfusion. Adequate supply of blood during emergencies requires a well-organized blood service. The entire community needs to be committed to voluntary unpaid blood donation throughout the year.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the objectives of this year’s campaign include among others, promoting the inclusion of blood transfusion services in national emergency preparedness, to build a wider public awareness for the need of year- round blood donation and to celebrate individuals who donate blood regularly.

The Kenya Red Cross Society is the leading blood donor recruitment partner of the Government. The overall objective within the blood programme is to contribute to the collection of an adequate supply of safe blood for transfusion.

Apart from saving lives, blood donation also has the added benefits of a free health screening, reduction of heart disease and the chances of heart attack, stimulation of the production of new blood cells and refreshing the system and more.

What can you do? How can you help? Give blood. Give now. Give often.
