EcoPost: Recycle, Replace, Employ
EcoPost is a green business and social enterprise that seeks to recycle waste plastic, replace timber with affordable alternatives and provide employment to the many unemployed Kenyan youth.
They address the challenge of urban waste management by recycling waste plastic to manufacture Eco friendly plastic lumber with numerous applications from fencing, to road signage to outdoor furniture.
EcoPost plastic lumber can replace wood lumber for both residential and commercial applications. It outlasts timber in terms of performance in the worst environmental conditions.
Additionally, the company provides customized tours and training to school children and other groups. The aim is to sensitize people on among others, solutions to growing socio-economic and environmental challenges as well as the facts on climate change and waste management.
EcoPost has thus far created 40+ direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs. In the next five years, they plan to create 150 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect jobs.
EcoPost is an award winning company. They have been accorded among others, the 2009 Safaricom Chora Bizna Competition, the 2011 Cartier Initiative Awards, the 2013 Energy Globe Awards.
With a growing interest in environmental conservation, as witnessed by the recent ban on plastic bags in the country, EcoPost is well placed to be at the forefront of environmental conservation with their provision of an affordable alternative to timber.
