Due to popular demand, Tinga Rain Productions announced they are bringing back Tinga Tinga Tales – The Musical in September 2018 at the Kenya National Theatre. Kenya’s all singing, all dancing production will run for a spectacular month, before the cast and crew transfer to Broadway, New York, USA in October 2018.

The producers have signed a two-week run to showcase Kenyan talent at the New Victory Theatre, New York City’s first and only full-time performing arts theatre for kids and their families. Tinga Tinga Tales on Broadway will run from 13-21 October 2018.

Designed to entertain the whole family, this production is being sponsored by Safaricom and Dalbit Petroleum on behalf of Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, with support from Kenya Airways and The Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Kenya.

Kenyan theatre lovers and their families will get a chance to come and sing and dance with the Tinga Tinga crew at the National Theatre, Nairobi from 1 – 30 September.  A total of 41 performances will be run, including special school performances at 10am.  Exclusive shows are also available for corporates to entertain their staff and customers.

Tinga Tinga Tales has enlisted some of Kenya’s top actors, musicians and creatives.  The cast includes national icon Eric Wainaina, soul diva Atemi Oyungu, actor Elsaphan Njora, Eddie Kimani, Alvan Gatitu, Ray Kibet, Miriam Macharia, Kendi Nkonge and Karimi Wamae Rimbui. The band includes Benjamin Kabaseke, Victor Kimetto, Marvin Maveke, Ted Mwangi, Tetu Shani and Chris Adwar.

Tinga Tinga Tales – The Musical was first produced in April 2016 at the Elephant, Lavington. It’s a gloriously interactive and raucous show where Monkey and his larger-than-life Tinga animal friends leap onto the stage from the pages of the beloved books and the popular international cartoon series.

The musical consists of African folklore, storytelling, and live music, written and directed by multi-Bafta award winner Claudia Lloyd, Kenyan celebrity pop singer/songwriter Eric Wainaina (Mo Faya, New York Theatre Festival), who also plays the role of Monkey, choreographed by CoachEdu and producer Sheba Hirst.

Dalbit Petroleum presented a cheque for Shs 8 million on behalf of Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy.

The Kshs 10 million will be instrumental in getting the production off the ground. This is also the second Kenyan musical that we have sponsored to make it to the renowned Broadway stage after MoFaya which was a trailblazer,” said Charles Wanjohi, Acting Director – Consumer Business, Safaricom.
