Safaricom Foundation supports West Pokot County to resettle families affected by floods 

Safaricom, Chief Financial Service Officer, Sitoyo Lopokoiyit (right) hands over a dummy cheque of 4 million to West Pokot Governor, Prof. John Lonyangapuo, to assist in the resettlement of families affected by landslides in West Pokot County.

Safaricom Foundation has come to the aid of families In West Pokot County who lost their homes and property during the recent floods.

Following a request by the county government of West Pokot, Safaricom Foundation donated KES 4 million towards resettlement of at least 300 families who were displaced and require support to rebuild their homes. They will work in partnership with Kenya Red Cross to ensure the homeless are supported.

“As information continued to trickle in, it emerged that West Pokot was one of the hardest hit counties, and we extend our deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. When we received a request from the Governor to assist with the resettlement of affected families, there was no question that we would stand in solidarity with the people of West Pokot,” said Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, Chief Financial Services, Safaricom who represented the Safaricom Foundation.

The support is an extension of Safaricom’s Foundation’s intervention in the county which has seen 20 projects including schools and hospitals being constructed.

This is in line with Safaricom Foundation’s 3 year strategy which focuses on among other economic empowerment of communities.
