Carrefour Partners with Red Cross to Support Communities in Kenya Impacted by COVID-19

Carrefour Kenya Country Manager, Franck Moreau and Red Cross Deputy Secretary General Annette Msabeni during the donation campaign launch at Carrefour Two Rivers branch this morning.

Carrefour which is operated by Majid Al Futtaim in Kenya, launched a month-long donation campaign in partnership with the Kenya Red-Cross to assist communities in need, with donations.

The donation will consist of maize meal, rice, sugar, cooking oil and other food items, targeting needy families neighbouring Carrefour stores. The distribution of these donations will be done through the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.

Carrefour customers are encouraged to join this worthy cause by donating food hampers and dropping them in the donation boxes, located in each of the seven Carrefour stores in Kenya. Carrefour will also contribute a food hamper, for every 10 donated by its customers.

“During this time of Covid-19, it is important to give back to those in need. Being there for the community is an integral part of our business at Majid Al Futtaim and assist in curbing the effects of this pandemic,” said Franck Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

The Kenya Red Cross has been at the forefront in collecting and distributing food essentials during this time, and together with Carrefour’s reach to a large customer base, this partnership will be a positive catalyst to rally the nation together to support those in need.

The measures instituted as part of the COVID-19 response has put a lot of households in dire strain economically, and unless the most vulnerable families are supported, we cannot defeat this pandemic” said Dr Asha Mohammed, Secretary General, Kenya Red Cross Society.
