Nyayo Estate Launch PET Collection Initiative
The New Plastic Economy Kenya led by implementing partners Coca-Cola Beverages Africa and BEISC Group in collaboration with the Nyayo Estate Resident Association(NERA) have launched circular economy to waste management at the Nyayo Estate. Coca-Cola Beverages Africa has provided 30 Mesh Bins and 30 Gunny bags for plastic bottles at the estate. Other partners in collaboration include T3, and Tassia youth group.
Nyayo Estate is one of the largest gated community in East and Central Africa, has a total of 4,000 house units and an estimate population of approximately 20,000 people. Nyayo Estate generates approximately 120 tonnes of waste per week. Therefore this initiative will create awareness around realization of circular economy for PET waste at the household level.
Nyayo Estate Resident Association will also empower youths through this project to be manning the bins – this includes Emptying process and loading onto trucks for transportation.
