  • SAFBUILD pre-engineered buildings will revolutionize the way modular Steel buildings are constructed across Kenya and East Africa. The steel building frames are fully factory-produced to exacting designs using MRM’s proprietary design software (SAFDESIGN) and are made from high strength Coated Steel ready for quick erection and assembly at site.
  • The manufacturing process ensures controlled quality, elimination of waste, reduced corrosion and a reduction in overall site construction time of up to 50% as compared to a traditional Steel building.

1 October 2020: Mabati Rolling Mills Limited (MRM), a Member of the Safal Group, today launched the SAFBUILD Manufacturing Plant at its Athi River facility.

The launch comes two (2) months after the SAFBUILD Plant was commissioned in August 2020.

MRM’s SAFBUILD brings to the market a new way of building quality steel framed buildings using custom designed Proprietary Software (SAFDESIGN). The cold formed high strength frames are fully factory-produced ready for quick erection and assembly at site. The SAFBUILD Plant has a capacity to supply both domestic and regional markets in a range of standard buildings and custom designed solutions.

“SAFBUILD and SAFDESIGN now provides us world class technology in Pre-Engineered Steel Building solutions which allows us to deliver buildings to clients within very tight timelines. The process ensures controlled quality, standards compliance, elimination of waste, reduced corrosion and importantly it can reduce overall site construction times by up to 50% as compared to a traditional Steel building”  said Mr Andrew Heycott, CEO Mabati Rolling Mills.

“We believe this innovative investment will revolutionize the way modular Steel buildings are constructed. This will further support the Government’s ‘Big Four’ agenda, further contribute to the competitiveness of Kenya’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors and help to ensure greater compliance to building standards” added Mr Heycott.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the SAFBUILD Business Head, Mr. Manish Garg, was confident that many projects across commercial, agricultural, industrial and social sectors will benefit from the solution.

“SAFBUILD is highly versatile and can be used for a wide array of solutions including, industrial warehouses, commercial structures, institutional buildings such as Schools or Churches and all forms of Agribusiness as well as utility buildings in either standard ‘off the shelf’ designs or customized to a client’s specific needs” said Manish Garg.

Since commissioning we have produced and supplied several projects to satisfied clients and we have many more in the pipeline under current design and production. The buildings are made fit-for-purpose to exacting designs and are environmentally sustainable” added Mr Garg.

Kenya and indeed the East African Region remains on a trajectory of rapid urbanization and infrastructure development. There is increased demand for more sustainable buildings that deliver greater efficiency and for more efficient construction methods to provide durability.

MRM has continued to be the market leader in Quality Steel Roofing Solutions for close to sixty (60) years and with SAFBUILD is continuing to provide Kenya with innovative and quality assured locally made Building options.
